My Passion
I have been working with children and families in different capacities for over 25 years. I have worked as a Professional School Counselor for the past 10 years. This has been one of the most satisfying roles I have held, as I was given opportunities to work with so many young people all at once.
I was drawn to counseling as I saw the great need for both children and adults to learn the skills needed to maneuver through life and the sometimes difficult situations that they may have found themselves in. Having that extra support proves to provide self-empowerment and productivity as well as improved relationships and interactions with others.
More than that, I know firsthand what it is like to be stuck and need help but not know exactly how to go about getting help or receiving help. Once I was directed to the help I needed I felt a sense of relief. I felt heard, I felt seen and would love to bring the same sense of peace to others. It is my hope that others will readily have the support and services they need to establish and maintain a healthy mental state. My purpose and passion in life is to be able to provide a source of contentment and comfort to help others move through life’s difficulties.
Background
Attending college as a non-traditional student, I received my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Augusta State University in 2009. During this time, I also worked full time as a Family Services Worker with children and their parents to assist in helping them to become self-sufficient in meeting the needs of their families. In 2011, I obtained a Master of Education and became a certified Professional School Counselor. I served in this capacity for ten years. It is here that I worked with countless students each year preparing students for academic, career, and personal and social success.
As a therapist I have worked with a number of clients assessing their needs and providing the support necessary to deal with life obstacles. I use a caring, and direct, solution-focused approach to help individuals to better understand themselves and help find solutions to the issues they are dealing with. I am passionate about creating a safe and non-judgmental place for clients, in which one can experience authentic self-expression, validation, self-worth, and motivation toward positive change.
Finding the right therapist can be daunting. I am here to assist clients with developing effective coping skills & new perspectives to live their life to the fullest. It is my goal to assist my clients on their individual journey to healing. Currently, if you are struggling mentally and emotionally with recent life changes, dealing with grief, or having trouble connecting with peers I am here to offer assistance. I specialize in helping adolescents and families work through difficult issues regaining the strength and confidence to navigate life at a higher level of satisfaction.
